Scientists engineered microbes to make the ingredients for recyclable plastics, replacing finite, polluting petrochemicals with sustainable alternatives. A newly discovered nematode species from the Pleistocene shares a molecular toolkit for survival with the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. This is the first time the disease has been confirmed molecularly in a primate other than a human. The innovation provides a new way to overcome current limitations in the storage and handling of products derived from living cells used for a variety of health care and scientific research purposes. Nobel Prize laureate Carolyn Bertozzi and researchers from Stanford and University College London have leveraged the prize-winning chemistry method she helped pioneer to create a potent anti-cancer therapy.
