Sealing and Conducting Solutions for Laboratory Automation and Analytical EquipmentFebruary 2009
Running <2 minutes in length, this technical animation developed by Bal Seal demonstrates the performance of its sealing and conducting solutions. The sequence gives viewers a unique perspective on the use of Bal Seal PTFE seal and canted coil spring combinations, and Bal Contact spring elements in laboratory and analytical equipment.
In the mass spectrometer sequence, the viewer is transported from the laboratory environment into a photorealistic spectrometry instrument assembly. The sample being analyzed travels across a set of canted-coil springs that transfer electrical current and provide grounding for the ionization process. The ions are manipulated by magnetic and electrical fields and sent through to a detection unit. A Bal Seal separates the atmosphere from the vacuum chamber on the instrument, where the ionized sample is sprayed into the detector.
Other segments of the animation illustrate the performance of Bal Seal PTFE and UHMWPE seal and spring combinations in the pipettes that makes up a sample preparation unit head array and in a pump used for UPLC.
