Fraction Collector Features Stationary Drop Head The Spectra/Chrom CF-2 fraction collector from Spectrum Laboratories meets both preparative LC and open column LC needs. The durable, general-purpose instrument features a stationary drop head where the tubes move under the drop former, ensuring every drop is collected. This reliable configuration addresses issues associated with a moving drop head that might cause drops to miss their mark.
A powerful peak detector lets users separate the low-level "in-between" material from the peaks. Users simply connect the chart recorder output from the detector to the input of the collector, and then they can put different amounts in the peak and non-peak tubes, as well as keep peaks more concentrated by separating them from the non-peak material. By adding a three-way diverter valve, users can skip collecting the in-between material altogether.
The fraction collector can collect up to 174 fractions in standard 13-mm test tubes or up to 116 fractions in smaller 10-mm-diameter tubes. For those who do assaying after collection, the instrument can collect directly in 17- or 28-mm-diameter scintillation vials. The ready-to-use instrument also includes tube holders for 12- or 13-mm-diameter tubes, a drop counter, and tubing fittings.
In addition, several options are available to expand the collector's versatility. The four-column adapter collects up to 29 fractions from each of the four separate columns simultaneously. The mast package allows users to move other instruments and accessories out of the way if they are short on bench space. A dust cover reduces the chance of dust or other contamination getting into samples when doing long collections.
