Testing System Measures Materials at 0.5-mg Forces

The ultra-low-force materials testing machine, the FlexTester, measures the mechanical properties of materials at forces down to 0.5 mg. The unit can generate force-displacement curves in tension, compression or flexure. It can also test in both vertical and horizontal orientations with typical actuator strokes of 5 mm with 1-nm resolution. MTESTQuattro controller and software offers precise closed-loop force or displacement control, data acquisition, real-time plotting and generating reports. Specimen baths and light microscopes can be supplied for testing hard-to-see specimens in solutions. Uses include the testing of sensors, optical lenses, adhesives, fibers, tiny micro-electromechanical system-based flexures, and more.
