Multi-Dimensional GC Performs Structure and QC Analysis

Multi-Dimensional GC Performs Structure and QC AnalysisThe Multi-Dimensional Gas Chromatography (MDGC) system from Shimadzu expands the capabilities of chemists who perform target compound analyses in complex sample matrices, including natural product extracts, food and flavor components, and biological extracts. This multidimensional heart-cutting system, incorporating a "multi-Deans switch," increases separation power by combining two capillary columns of different selectivity for a more efficient separation of the target analytes from a complex sample matrix. The improved separation allows more positive identification and improved quantitative analysis. The "multi-Deans switch" is a capillary-optimized pressure switching device that directs flow from the first column directly to a monitor detector or to the second column and detector. A fully integrated software package, which can be used with either GCsolution or GCMSsolution software, simplifies method development and system operation.

Striving Toward Secondary Goals
Late last month, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stunned most everyone when he declared his promise that "by the end of my second term, we will have the first permanent base on the moon." While I don’t fault Gingrich for dreaming and trying to set high standards and goals, I can’t help but think of the enormous amount of known and unknown variables that significantly deter this accomplishment...continue
