Enhanced Ultrasonic Fluid Processor

Microsonic Systems’ HENDRIX SM100Microsonic Systems’ HENDRIX SM100 now serves four key applications: compound solubilization, sample thawing, microplate mixing, and magnetic particles/cells suspension.

Originally launched as a microplate mixer, the HENDRIX SM100 has been enhanced to cover a wider range of applications and to satisfy market demands for higher throughput in sample preparation and fluid processing. Combining proprietary lateral ultrasonic thrust (LUT) technology and the design of the FASA array, this ultrasonic fluid processor enables rapid compound solubilization, reducing the hours-long process to minutes. It can also thaw frozen samples in minutes, facilitating the possibility of on-demand sample retrieval, and suspend magnetic particles and live cells, expanding its applications in Life Sciences to activities such as DNA extraction or isolation.

In addition, the processor has been proven to mix DMSO samples into water 7x faster than samples mixed by an orbital shaker and 12x faster than samples mixed by diffusion. The HENDRIX SM100 can cause rapid and effective mixing in minutes, particularly for smaller assay volumes where traditional mixing is hampered by surface tension effects.

Striving Toward Secondary Goals
Late last month, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stunned most everyone when he declared his promise that "by the end of my second term, we will have the first permanent base on the moon." While I don’t fault Gingrich for dreaming and trying to set high standards and goals, I can’t help but think of the enormous amount of known and unknown variables that significantly deter this accomplishment...continue
