Air- and Water-Stable Palladium Catalyst

The PEPPSI-IPr (Pyridine-Enhanced Precatalyst Preparation Stabilization and Initiation) is an air- and water-stable palladium catalyst suited for intermolecular cross-coupling reactions, aminations and intramolecular heck transformations. Highly efficient, the catalyst also has superior functional group tolerance and meets the performance of traditional phosphine systems in industrially useful Suzuki, Negishi and Buchwald-Hartwig reactions. Its efficient mediation of C-C and C-N bond-forming processes, robust stability and competitive cost structure make it suitable for many applications. The technology platform is based on the development of a Pd-NHC (N-heterocyclic carbene) system built on a simple concept. The 3-chloropyridyl ligand functions as a ‘throw-away’ ligand, while the bulky NHC ligand promotes reductive elimination of the product that in turn increases overall yields. The catalyst is available in gram to bulk quantities. Sigma-Aldrich
