Automated Particle Characterization System

Category: Particle Analyzers

The Morphologi G3 automated particle characterization system provides microscope quality images and statistically significant particle size and shape information through the rapid analysis of hundreds of thousands of particles - all with little or no user intervention. A further capability enables the fully automated detection, enumeration and size classification of foreign particulate matter (FPM) collected on a filter. For particle characterization using microscopy-based techniques, a number of critical factors determine the usability of the technique and the reliability of results: sample dispersion and automation are key issues. Suited for R&D, the Morphologi G3 is also used in QC and for other routine applications where the instrument is operated by a variety of users rather than one specialist. The system was created to make sample dispersion an integral function, maximize automation and minimize manual, user-dependent controls and settings. In addition, the small footprint saves valuable bench space. Full automation using standard operating procedures (SOP) eliminates the user bias inherent in manual microscopy methods, and SOPs allow straightforward method development and easy electronic transfer. Automatic calibration, conformance to 21 CFR Part 11 requirements and full IQ/OQ documentation ensure the system is accurate and repeatable and all data is secure and validated.

Striving Toward Secondary Goals
Late last month, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich stunned most everyone when he declared his promise that "by the end of my second term, we will have the first permanent base on the moon." While I don’t fault Gingrich for dreaming and trying to set high standards and goals, I can’t help but think of the enormous amount of known and unknown variables that significantly deter this accomplishment...continue
