Preview of the 2009 Eastern Analytical Symposium

November 13, 2009

The 48th annual meeting of the Eastern Analytical Symposium will be held Nov. 16-19, 2009 at the Garden State Exhibit Center and hotel complex in Somerset, New Jersey. EAS provides professional scientists and students continuing education in the analytical and allied sciences through the presentation of technical papers, seminars, and short courses. In addition, an exposition of apparatus, supplies, and services related to these sciences takes place concurrent with the symposium.

The technical program at EAS continuously demonstrates its excellence. With over 600 invited and contributed papers, the program emphasizes presentations that deal with cutting edge science and relate to real problems faced by scientists in all fields. The 2009 technical program reflects this year’s EAS theme, “Analysis: BIG and Small,” by highlighting topics of concern in today’s world such as spectral characterization of nanotubes, bioanalysis, space analytics, forensic science, environmental solutions, and food contamination.

Several sessions reflect the growing presence of vibrational spectroscopy and microscopy in industrial and forensic applications, highlighting developments in near infrared and Raman instrumentation. Also included in the program are sessions on mass spectrometry and NMR. Two of the EAS Award sessions highlight topics in mass spectrometry and there are sessions such as “Small Molecule Structure Elucidation using Mass Spectrometry and NMR” that are sure to be of interest to scientists in many different fields.

As in past symposia, this year EAS offers a strong program in separation science with sessions on UHPLC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS, affinity capillary electrophoresis, chiral separations, and SFC. Nineteen poster sessions will take place, which provide an excellent opportunity to meet the presenter/author and discuss topics of interest to you face-to-face.

EAS Short Courses emphasize practical and economical problem-solving topics which will include material that you can take home and immediately apply to your daily work. Consistent with the mission of EAS to train and educate scientists, the Short Course Program for 2009 has an excellent variety of course offerings with 14 new courses covering new topics in the most recent development of pharmaceutical analysis, instrumental analysis, method development and validation, new analytical technologies, and regulatory compliance. These courses will be taught by a group of distinguished instructors, who are well recognized in their fields.

The Exposition at EAS provides the scientist with a convenient single location to find out about new equipment, services, and technologies. EAS consistently provides high booth traffic and high-quality leads.

Join us at the premier regional meeting for the analytical sciences. EAS offers an excellent chance to network with other professionals in your field as well as with your classmates, and your suppliers. It is not too late to register for the 2009 EAS; registration is available online at www.EAS.org or onsite at the Garden State Exhibit Center. Please contact EAS at askEAS@EAS.org or 732-449-2280 for more information.
