CIC System Monitors Chemical Contamination

CIC systemThe combustion ion chromatography (CIC) system from Dionex can be used for analyzing ionic contaminants, especially sulfur and halogens, in hard to analyze samples such as petrochemicals, viscous or non-aqueous industrial chemicals, and solid samples.

With the CIC system, users simply place the sample in the combustion chamber. The instrument automatically combusts the sample, absorbs the analytes into the solution, and injects the sample solution into the chromatograph. The ICS-2100 Reagent-Free IC system further reduces time and labor by eliminating the need to prepare eluents or regenerants.

Applications for system include analyzing sulfur and halogens in plastics, polymers, epoxies, petrochemicals, coal, inks, aluminum powder and electronic components. The system is also suitable for manufacturers who must monitor contamination of chemicals, raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, or waste streams for quality control or environmental regulation compliance.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race
In the 100 years since Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, women have made leaps and bounds in science and engineering. Following the extreme example of Madame Curie, women have exponentially raised their position in S&E in the last few decades. In a field previously (and traditionally) dominated by men, women seem to be slowly but surely taking over—or at least leveling the playing field. ...continue
