Xylene Solubles in Polypropylenes by FIPA®

by Brian Keller, Viscotek Corp.

FIPA is designed to be a fast, precise and accurate analytical tool for routine process and quality control. This technique provides quick and easy simultaneous measurements of Mw, IV and % Polymer for liquid samples. Therefore, it is ideal for the quantitation step of a routine test called “Xylene Soluble.” The Xylene Soluble (XS) test is designed to determine the amorphous content of Polypropylene (PP) and impact copolymer like Ethylene-Propylene Rubber (EPR). The accuracy and precision of the XS test is very important to the implementation of the Process and Product Definitions (Spec’s) of these materials.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race
In the 100 years since Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, women have made leaps and bounds in science and engineering. Following the extreme example of Madame Curie, women have exponentially raised their position in S&E in the last few decades. In a field previously (and traditionally) dominated by men, women seem to be slowly but surely taking over—or at least leveling the playing field. ...continue
