Automatic Frit Punch/Place Machine
The automatic frit punch/place machine can fill 96- or 384-well microplates. The machine presses eight sharpened SST tubes into a pre-cut sheet of filter paper to cut the frits and picks them up inside the tubes. It then positions the first row of the microtiter tray under the tubes, and the frits are placed into the bottom of each well using ejection pins. The machine keeps track of where each set of holes is punched from the filter sheet and indexes over one pitch to get a clean set of frits. After 12 automatic punch and place cycles, the 96-well tray is filled. With the 384-well plates, 24 cycles fill half of the wells, and a second cycle finishes the rest. The filter paper is cut to fit into the punching nest and is supported by a replaceable plastic block that can be reused for thousands of cycles.
