Tactile Feedback for Touch-Screen-Based Portable Devices

TouchSense tactile feedback for portable devices provides confirming tactile response to user touch-screen interactions. This technology can be licensed by OEMs and system integrators and embedded into handheld electronics, such as remote controls, test equipment and mobile data terminals. Although touch screens offer many benefits, the loss of tactile feedback when a user makes an onscreen selection can create usability problems. The technology helps solve these problems. With tactile cues, which can also be synchronized with audible and visual prompts, this technology minimizes usability problems. The system works with touch screens measuring about 15 cm diagonal and is compatible with a range of commercial touch-screen sensing technologies. Immersion also supplies similar technology for larger touch-screen designs.
