Particle Analysis Instrumentation
The FlowCAM particle analysis system permits different particles within a heterogeneous sample to be detected, analyzed, documented and counted separately. While many analysis tools count different particles sharing the same equivalent spherical diameter (ESD) as the same particle type, the FlowCAM takes high-resolution digital images of every particle in the sample, enabling users to mathematically and visually discern differences among each individual particle - even when they share the same ESD. Featuring the proprietary Image Management System (IMS) and its pattern recognition software, the instrument measures the particle size, length, width and shape directly from the particle’s actual image rather than by estimating the dimensions based on a conversion to ESD from light scatter or other techniques.
