Compact Motor Control IC Provides Digital Current Loop

The MC73110 motor control IC provides digital current loop for brushless DC motors. An on-chip A/D converter is used to digitize the analog current feedback, and multiple current sensing methods are provided to maximize motor performance. Using the intelligent and single-axis IC, only a MOSFET or IGBT triple half-bridge is needed to implement a full-featured controller. The device performs all other functions including PI current loop compensation, trajectory generation, commutation, velocity loop, encoder input and Hall sensor input. It operates in an internal velocity profile mode, velocity mode with an external command signal, and torque mode with an external command signal. Suited for building high performance, low-cost brushless motor amplifiers, the device can also be used in applications such as medical automation, centrifuges, tape drives, machine tools, scientific instrumentation, semiconductor equipment, pumps and compressors.
