Online Quality Control System for Color Inspection

The modular HAAKE PolyLab Open System (OS), a torque rheometer platform, features an integrated measuring system that provides online quality control for color inspection for the polymer industry. The system architecture of the rheometer has been designed on an open industry standard, allowing various standardized sensors and systems to be connected to it for optical, viscosity and spectroscopy measurements. A range of sensor applications are offered to meet user specific needs. The most recent sensor allows online control of color changes that occur because of polymer degradation or can be used for color compound production. A fiber-optic probe is connected to the inside of the extruder die to a spectrophotometer with a CCD sensor to allow online monitoring of color changes in the melt stream. Online control saves time for pellet sampling and eliminates the need for off-line quality control in the lab.
