Sensor Measures Pore Water Conductivity

The WET-2 sensor has applications in precision horticulture and soil science research and is usable in both soils and artificial substrates. The device measures pore water conductivity (ECp)—the EC of the water that is available to the plant. Monitoring the water content and conductivity (EC) and adjusting the injection of liquid fertilizer into the irrigation water controls nutrient levels. The sensor monitors this information quickly and accurately. Sometimes fertigation provides nutrients, but they can also be provided by controlled release fertilizers; the rate at which these are taken up depends on the weather conditions. The sensor can be used to measure quickly the EC within the growing media and takes the guesswork out of this process.
