Moisture Meter Also Measures Bromine Index/Bromine Number
The CA-100 Karl Fischer Moisture Meter allows the simultaneous measurement of moisture and Bromine Index/Bromine Number. This method is primarily used to measure the unsaturation level of hydrocarbons in fats, oils, and in petroleum products. Bromine Index and Bromine Number are important parameters for monitoring the purity of petroleum distillates. Bromine Number is expressed as the grams of Bromine (Br) available to react with 100 grams of the product. Bromine Index is expressed as the milligrams of Bromine available to react with 100 grams of the product under the specified condition. Comparison of data for cyclohexene, some unsaturated hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds, and higher alcohols against data generated by ASTM D1159-98, D2710-99 and D5776-99 shows the proprietary Bromine Index/Bromine Number method provides equivalent results, yet is easier to use and does not require a dedicated instrument. Analysis of Bromine Index of Aromatic Hydrocarbons Coulometrically via ASTM D1492 is also possible with the CA-100.
