Portable Infrared Analyzers Measure Biofuels

The InfraCal filtometer and InfraSpec VFA-IR spectrometer are two easy-to-use mid-infrared analyzers for biofuels analysis. The low-cost filtometer is a single-wavelength analyzer that measures the blend ratio of biodiesel in diesel fuel or ethanol in gasoline. Compact and portable, it gives a direct readout in percent biodiesel or percent ethanol, allowing measurements to be taken on-site. The spectrometer monitors not only the percent biodiesel in diesel fuel but also total glycerides during the biodiesel reaction process. When used for pass/fail determinations for total glycerides, the analyzer can reduce analysis time and increase reactor throughput by 20%. Additional features include a simplified PC interface for non-technically trained personnel.
