SPE Disks Reduce Pesticide Pollution
Booth 3835. Atlantic solid phase extraction (SPE) disks adsorb and elute analytes when analyzing trace contaminants in water samples. Benefits include less solvent usage and exposure, less time, and less effort than liquid-liquid extraction. In addition, methods that accurately and easily quantify organochlorine pesticides, which can be toxic to animals and humans, are essential. Results from a recent study on the effectiveness of using the disks in extracting organochlorine pesticides from water samples demonstrate that the disks can quantify an array of organochlorine compounds in a single extraction, each at a better rate than the standard set by the EPA. When used in combination with the Spe-Dex automated extractor systems, the SPE disks are effective when running EPA methods 8081B and 8082A.
