High-Sensitivity HPLC Charged Aerosol Detector

Booth 1559. The Corona Charged Aerosol Detector (CAD) provides consistently high sensitivity and low limits of detection independent of molecular structure. With its capacity to measure compounds present in low nanogram quantities, the instrument routinely provides ten times the sensitivity of evaporative light scattering (ELS) detection. Charged Aerosol Detection is a robust HPLC technology that delivers advanced capabilities to HPLC user-labs. It also shows consistent inter-analyte response independent of chemical structure, enabling quantitation across a range that exceeds four orders of magnitude. The technology is applicable for measuring most non- or semi-volatile compounds, such as drug compounds, carbohydrates, steroids, proteins and lipids. With the technology, the HPLC column eluent is nebulized and the resulting droplets dry at ambient temperature, producing analyte particles. A second stream of gas is positively charged as it passes a high-voltage platinum corona wire. The charged gas collides with and transfers charges to the opposing stream of analyte particles. A negatively charged low-voltage ion trap removes high-mobility particles while analyte particles transfer their charges to a collector. The charge transferred to the collector is in direct proportion to analyte mass.
