Determination of Chlorinated Acid Herbicides in Soil by LC-MS-MS
by Chin-Kai Meng, TITLE, Agilent Technologies
Introduction
The chlorinated acid herbicide is a popular class of broad-leaf weed killer in lawn and grain crops. Due to its wide-spread use, contamination in the environment, for example, water and soil, due to run-off is a serious concern.
Traditional analytical methods were based on Gas Chromatograph (GC) and/or Mass Spectrometer (MS) which requires derivitization of the analytes. Combining Liquid Chromatograph and Electrospray Ionization (ESI) in the negative ion mode, these herbicides can be analyzed without derivatization. The Multiple Reaction Monitor (MRM) mode in MS-MS operation provides low pg detection limit. This application note is based on the standards and sample preparation procedure from the Montana Department of Agriculture in Bozeman, Montana.
